PREPPING FOR CHRISTMAS – PRO STYLE!

By | Beauty, Home, Party | No Comments

I’m Rose, the founder of Glow Concierge and I love Christmas! I’m literally obsessed, like a small child! In fact, I probably get way more excited than most children. I have Christmas carefully planned out by about August, Christmas presents sourced and bought insanely early (I have a spreadsheet organised by spring!), stockings prepared, and the house decorated in an abundance of green foliage, lights and baubles.

The thing I can’t plan early for though is myself! I of course want to match the house and be as sparkly and preened as can be! Of course waxing, lashes, manicure and pedicure can be planned a little in advance, maybe a week to 10 days maximum if I’m using gellack on the nails. At the moment, I’m loving a bit of a mix with my manicures. I love a couple of nails in one colour, then another couple nude with the other colour as a tip. Of course I also add a bit of sparkle! I think the French style is so elegant and when you modernise it a bit with a smaller tip or a sparkly edge to it then it looks great. It doesn’t always have to be red or green, I have an amazing coppery brown sparkly colour that I’m obsessed with at the moment. For my lashes I tend to go for a lash lift most of the time, but Christmas demands extensions!

The week before I’ll have a facial to make sure my skin is as prepared as it can be for the onslaught of too much chocolate and champagne, and not enough sleep! I am pretty good about my skincare routine in general, but at this time of year when it’s so cold and dry, I could probably try a bit harder! That’s why a good facial is so important. I’ve got a Microneedling appointment booked for next week and a facial one week before Christmas. I also just bought a new serum from Dermalogica which is amazing!

Lastly I will book a hair appointment a couple of days before Christmas to make sure my colour is on point and a good blow dry lasts a good few days, so it should still be looking good on Christmas morning, the last thing you want to be doing on Christmas Day is trying to find time to do your hair!

Makeup – I’d love to have someone come to me on Christmas Day, but I leave that to the parties beforehand! I absolutely love dressing up and having my hair and makeup done before a party! A couple of friends and I usually do it together, which keeps the cost down and makes it a bit of an event. We’ll have a glass of wine, music and get in the mood for going out…or indeed staying in!

HOW WE CHOOSE OUR PROVIDERS

By | Beauty, Food for thought, Home, Massage | No Comments

Glow Concierge works with beauty, wellness and fitness providers around Switzerland. We entrust these people with an important mission – to provide a good first impression of the brand. How do we make sure then that these individuals get it right?

YOUR FIRST CONTACT

Our every partnership starts with a test appointment. Rosamund, the founder and CEO of Glow Concierge, created this brand first and foremost because SHE needed these services. Whichever provider you book, you can be sure she had a treatment with him/her before.

It is important to us that you receive only the best quality services. That’s why Rosamund not only tests the providers herself, but also tries to get a treatment with them once in a while to check if everything is according to Glow Concierge Standards.

YOUR SAFETY FIRST

Allowing strangers in your home can be a little nerve wracking. Glow Concierge possesses information about each provider at all times. In more than three years of our existence, there were no major incidents. One thing we always ask people who are still having reservations is, do you have someone who cleans for you? Do you often give this person a key? Are you often out when they are in your home? If the answer is yes to any of these questions then there’s no need to think any further!

PROVIDING THE SPA EXPERIENCE

Glow Concierge was created with an idea that you can combine the comfort of your home with the pleasure of being in a salon, leaving out all the unnecessary and somewhat frustrating parts like looking for a babysitter or searching for a parking spot.

All our providers receive Glow Concierge Towels, which you are very welcome to use! As soon as you’ve made yourself your drink of choice, you will be surrounded by fluffy white towels, and all the equipment you would normally find in a salon. Andrei even goes as far as to turn on a relaxing playlist during your massage.

EARNING YOUR TRUST STEP BY STEP

We hope this article has helped you to understand Glow Concierge better. Should you have any more questions, we’re always ready to respond to them in the comments below.

HOW TO BEAT THE HOLIDAY WEIGHT GAIN

By | Fitness, Health, Home, Nutrition | 2 Comments

We’re almost three weeks into September – exactly the time when your mind has already forgotten all about your last vacation, but the body is left to sort out the consequences.

Whether you hopped on a flight to your favorite spot, or staycationed closer to home, we definitely all indulged in that extra bowl of pasta and glass of wine this summer. To get you back to feeling your tip top best, here are our weight loss tips.

  1. Drop the soda… and the wine. Get back to basics with the good stuff, water. Try drinking warm water eight times a day – it acts like a dishwasher for your digestive system, cleaning out all the gunk and toxins as it goes.
  2. Take a break from stress. Stress hormones are brilliant at storing fat! Great when we were cave people, but terrible for modern day weightloss. We want to reduce the body’s instinct to produce the stress hormone. When stress can’t be avoided, make sure you give your body a reset with something calming like a hot bath, restorative yoga or meditation.
  3. Bring back breakfast! As tempting as it is to skip a meal, its actually counterintuitive for losing weight. Having a healthy breakfast featuring protein, fiber and healthy fats will keep cravings and snacking at bay as it stabilises your blood sugar.
  4. Make home cooking fashionable again. This is fundamental for weight loss success. Not only does this control your portion sizes, but it means you know exactly what’s going into your meal. There’s no chance of hidden additives, non-organic ingredients or secret sugar.
  5. Move your body. Increasing your daily activity isn’t just about calories burnt – it helps manage stress and boost your mood. Getting in those sweaty work outs is amazing, but don’t forget to have fun. Dancing to your favorite songs is just as effective. Remember to have a little protein after your workout to aid muscle repair.

POST WINTER SKIN

By | Beauty, Food for thought, Home, Massage | No Comments

We’re all tired of winter and our skin even more so! All combined, the dry cold air, continuous handwashing and sanitizing are just a recipe for disaster.

If being responsible and sanitizing hands in every supermarket has shown on your hands here are some tips that’ll help revive the skin:

1.Scrubbing first. Take off that dry layer of dead skin cells and let the new ones shine. Moisturizing does not often give the effect you’re expecting it to because a big part of what you’re trying to hydrate are dead skin cells.

Buying a body scrub or having a professional scrub your hands and body can help the skin prepare for the creams and lotions you’re about to give it. Full Body Sea Salt Peeling from Caterina is the perfect treatment to shed off your winter skin and massage a complex of refreshing and moisturizing ingredients in.

2. Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize… Putting a hand lotion at your sink or using some body milk after the shower can really change the way your skin feels. But sometimes we might want something extra, be it a professional hand massage after a manicure or a full body treatment.

Raindrops Massage with 7 Essential Oils from Alexandra is designed to enrich your body with vitamins and relax your soul. It is bringing the body into structural and electrical alignment and makes you feel recharged and ready for summer.

3. Have you forgotten something? When we are wearing closed shoes and socks all the time it is easy to forget about the skin on your feet.

Save yourself the struggle, book the classical pedicure, and we’ll make your feet sexy again.

4. By looking at your face it is easy to estimate the health of your body. And when if not under direct spring sunlight will the bags under your eyes be more visible.

Having a basic facial or a microneedling treatment once a month is the perfect way to maintain your skin bright and shiny.

PRODUCTS I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT

By | Beauty, Fashion, Home | No Comments

Since starting Glow Concierge I have focused a little more on looking after my skin! I am never going to be someone that wears full make up and has flawless hair every day…as much as I’ve tried, but as I’ve got older I have realised that looking after my skin is a necessity! As much as I’d love a facial with Andrei every week…or every day, these are slightly more realistic options! I do try and have a facial once a month as a bit of a treat though!

I have put together a list of the beauty products that I absolutely love, they are my go to products for every day.

  1. Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant – a super fine exfoliant that can be used every day without being too harsh on your skin. I use this alongside Dermalogica Pre Cleanser and Special Cleansing Gel. Ever since Laura introduced me to this brand (she is working mostly with their products), I fell in love. These products are not too expensive and they don’t test on animals. Their packaging is 90% recycled too and almost all of the products are classified as vegan.
  2. Boots UK Day & Night Cream – an old favourite that I’ve used for 20 years. I have to pick it up in England, I haven’t discovered anywhere in Switzerland that sells it. It’s such a good price for an amazing product.
  3. L’Oreal Paris Purple Shampoo – I have tried so so many and this one is hands down the best.
  4. Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream – literally transforms your skin, such a great product.
  5. Bobbi Brown BB Cream – the only makeup I wear…unless Aleksandra is doing it for me!
  6. Sunday Rain Body Scrub – I love all their products, it’s my favourite brand for bath products. All cruelty free and vegan and I love the packaging, simple and looks pretty!
  7. La Prairie Skin Caviar – I bought this as a birthday present years ago and was converted! It’s probably the only really expensive product that I use, I love the ritual of applying it, they have other versions which are simpler but I really love this one with the little spoon.
  8. Aesop Exfolioating Hand Wash – I am obsessed with this, in this day and age when you’re washing your hands 100 times a day, a good soap is a must. I love the exfoliant in this, I end up washing my hands for so long while I scrub away at the back of my hands!
  9. Bio Oil Dry Skin Gel – I have the driest skin, especially in winter, I started using this when I was pregnant when I got through so so much of it…it seemed to work, zero stretch marks! Now I use it just the once a day instead of obsessively!

MICRONEEDLING

By | Beauty, Fashion, Food for thought, Health, Home | No Comments

So, what exactly is microneedling?

Microneedling is a minimally invasive skincare treatment that stimulates “wound healing,” or the body’s natural reaction to produce collagen. Microneedling has been around for centuries, most commonly as acupuncture. This modern version didn’t really take off until the early 2000s and has since been taking the beauty world by storm.

The benefits make microneedling worth the splurge. This treatment boosts collagen, promotes healthy circulation, and helps to tighten and lift skin. Microneedling is also the ideal way to treat dreaded scarring from acne, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, and even stretch marks. Count me in!

Before having my appointment, I made sure that my face was thoroughly clean without a trace of makeup, I hardly ever wear makeup so that was an easy one! Once I was comfortably lying down and wrapped up nice and warm under a blanket, Monique explained the whole treatment before getting started.

The tool that was used looks like a large pen, so you don’t actually see any needles. Monique started by applying a serum, she started on my forehead and then worked in sections on my face, the serum is packed with vitamins so that the skin absorbs the benefits throughout the process. I was expecting it to be quite painful so was pleasantly surprised to find that apart from the odd sensitive area like the upper lip and cheekbones, it wasn’t too bad at all. Honestly, no part of my face actually hurt until my upper lip, and even then, the pain was tolerable, she did that area really quickly so it was over almost before it began. This is generally a more sensitive area on your face anyways, so it makes sense!

After Monique had finished my entire face, she applied a cooling and calming mask for 10 minutes to help reduce inflammation and redness, this felt so good! The final step was to apply a calming cream and I was officially good to go.

She explained after the importance of wearing sunscreen and gave me a small sample of SPF50 in case I didn’t have any myself.

I have to say I was expecting to look quite alarming and have no chance of going outside for a good 24 hours but in fact I was quite shocked (in a good way!), when I looked in the mirror, I was a little red but it didn’t look too bad at all, I actually went out after and didn’t get any strange looks.

The first 2 hours after the appointment, my face was a little tender, it felt a bit like wind burn but after a couple of hours I didn’t notice it at all.

For me the biggest thing I noticed was my pores look smaller which is exactly what I wanted. I didn’t have any side effects although I’ve heard that some people do break out a few days after.

HOW FREQUENTLY SHOULD YOU BE MICRONEEDLING?

According to Monique, for best results you should have 3 treatments, a month or so apart, after that, once a year is enough.

AN INTERVIEW WITH OUR FOUNDER

By | Beauty, Fitness, Food for thought, Health, Home, Massage | 2 Comments

Hi Rosamund, we have 5 questions for you. First off, what gave you the idea for Glow Concierge?

After I had my first child I was desperate for a manicure but didn’t want to take him with me to the salon and didn’t want to have to pay for a babysitter. I was complaining to a friend that I couldn’t find someone to come to me and she said why don’t you do it then! That was that, Glow was born!

Question 2 for you: what are your favourite treatments?

Where do I start! I guess there’s 2 sides to this. The one’s have most frequently and the ones that are a real treat. I have a manicure every 3 weeks or so with Aleksandra. She is brilliant, it’s always flawless, lasts an age and doesn’t take too long. For pedicures, I book Laura usually, she has this amazing treatment called Lovaspa which has to be seen to be believed, leaves your feet like babies bottoms!
When I’m treating myself I book the Wake Up Renewing Facial with Andrei, it’s sublime. Reflexology with Nadia is also a real treat, she doesn’t actually serve my area but when I’m at my parents in Schindellegi, I always make sure to book.

Questions 3: what’s your favourite part of working on Glow Concierge

One of my favourite things has to be getting to test all the new providers, lucky me! Although once I had to test 3 personal trainers in less than a week which was brutal! I also love the customer side of it, I’ve never really had to interact with customers in that way before, it was very new to me but I love it. To be honest, every day is different and it’s all new which is exciting so I pretty much love all of it!

Question 4: what are your plans for Glow Concierge in the near future?

At the moment the focus is on the German part of Switzerland, obviously we started in Zurich first and we’re slowly spreading out, I’m always on the look out for more providers to join, it’s a slow process but we’re getting there! We’ll be adding Basel Stadt Canton soon which is exciting!

Question 5: what’s the hardest part of running the business?

Trying to balance the number of providers with the number of clients, it’s a bit of a catch 22 situation, without the providers, we won’t get the clients, but without enough clients, the providers won’t get the bookings. Especially in new areas, this is something that takes time. In Zurich now we have a great balance but in the newer areas, its slower.

PILATES VS YOGA

By | Fitness, Food for thought, Health, Home | No Comments

Chronische Schmerzen
Angstzustände & Depressionen
Multiple Sklerose
Arthritis
Atemwegserkrankungen
Hoher Blutdruck
Typ-2-Diabetes

BEAUTY TRENDS 2020

By | Beauty, Fitness, Health, Home, Massage, Nutrition | No Comments

While many of us may not be going on the holidays we expected, or to the parties we had planned, we can still follow the trends that we were thinking we’d see in far flung locations or lining the restaurants and bars at home this summer. While the 2010s were all about looking effortless, this new decade is finally making makeup fun again. 2020 is all about celebrating the individual, throw on that glitter, pile of that hair and read on.

Emphasis on the Eyes – neon liners, glitters, pastels; look beyond your usual safe smokey eye and learn to experiment.

Modern French Manicure – forget the classic French that you see with the white tips, think incredibly fine neon tips, bright accents and a manicure firmly rooted in 2020.

Glitter Everywhere – we missed our glitter braids at festivals this summer but instead we got glitter eye makeup! So many options, subtle fine shimmers, bold chunks of glitter, rhinestones – you can’t go wrong!

Fluffy Brows -thankfully the overfilled brows that have invaded Instagram are on the way out, fluffy, more natural brows are here to stay! Opt for a tinted brow gel or a fine brow pencil to get more definition or sweep your brows upwards with brow wax for a more dramatic look.
