Hi Rosamund, we have 5 questions for you. First off, what gave you the idea for Glow Concierge?

After I had my first child I was desperate for a manicure but didn’t want to take him with me to the salon and didn’t want to have to pay for a babysitter. I was complaining to a friend that I couldn’t find someone to come to me and she said why don’t you do it then! That was that, Glow was born!

Question 2 for you: what are your favourite treatments?

Where do I start! I guess there’s 2 sides to this. The one’s have most frequently and the ones that are a real treat. I have a manicure every 3 weeks or so with Aleksandra. She is brilliant, it’s always flawless, lasts an age and doesn’t take too long. For pedicures, I book Laura usually, she has this amazing treatment called Lovaspa which has to be seen to be believed, leaves your feet like babies bottoms!
When I’m treating myself I book the Wake Up Renewing Facial with Andrei, it’s sublime. Reflexology with Nadia is also a real treat, she doesn’t actually serve my area but when I’m at my parents in Schindellegi, I always make sure to book.

Questions 3: what’s your favourite part of working on Glow Concierge

One of my favourite things has to be getting to test all the new providers, lucky me! Although once I had to test 3 personal trainers in less than a week which was brutal! I also love the customer side of it, I’ve never really had to interact with customers in that way before, it was very new to me but I love it. To be honest, every day is different and it’s all new which is exciting so I pretty much love all of it!

Question 4: what are your plans for Glow Concierge in the near future?

At the moment the focus is on the German part of Switzerland, obviously we started in Zurich first and we’re slowly spreading out, I’m always on the look out for more providers to join, it’s a slow process but we’re getting there! We’ll be adding Basel Stadt Canton soon which is exciting!

Question 5: what’s the hardest part of running the business?

Trying to balance the number of providers with the number of clients, it’s a bit of a catch 22 situation, without the providers, we won’t get the clients, but without enough clients, the providers won’t get the bookings. Especially in new areas, this is something that takes time. In Zurich now we have a great balance but in the newer areas, its slower.

PILATES VS YOGA

PILATES VS YOGA

A lot of people wonder what is the difference between pilates and yoga. One of the main differences is that Yoga can be used for improving the flexibility of the body and it will also gradually increase the flexibility of your joints. Whereas Pilates focuses on trying to relax muscles which are tense and provide strengthening of the numerous muscles of the body, it also may be better for recovery after injury, improving posture and for core strength.

One of the biggest difference is the focus in yoga on the spiritual side. Yoga is an integrated system using breath, movement and meditation to unite mind, body and spirit. Pilates was created by Joseph Pilates who was an anatomist and a mechanical genius. It is a physical system that uses very specific targeted exercises to improve strength, flexibility and posture with particular focus on the core. Das Jahr 2020 hat für uns alle wohl eine etwas andere Wendung genommen, als erwartet. So mussten beispielsweise viele Hochzeiten auf 2021 verschoben werden, was für das Brautpaar und alle Beteiligten natürlich alles andere als einfach ist. Der lockere Dutt oder leichte Locken sind gerade total im Trend, da viele Bräute die traditionellen oder übertrieben “frisierten” Frisuren eher meiden.

Sowohl der Junggesellinnenabschied als auch die Brautparty können dafür sorgen, dass die Zeit bis zur Hochzeit noch um ein Highlight erweitert wird. Beide Feiern scheinen auf den ersten Blick das Gleiche zu sein, aber es gibt doch kleine aber feine Unterschiede.

Der Junggesellinnenabschied

Klassische Junggesellinnenabschiede sind dafür bekannt (oder berüchtigt), ein bisschen wild zu sein. Viel Alkohol und hier und da mal über die Stränge zu schlagen, gehören da einfach dazu. Brautparties laufen da eher etwas gemässigter ab, sind oftmals generationenübergreifend und gediegener. Beide Parties könnten also unterschiedlicher nicht sein und doch haben sie am Ende des Tages genau das gleiche Ziel: Die zukünftige Braut zu feiern.

Viele Bräute stellen sich nun die Frage, ob sie beide Parties durchführen sollten bzw. welche der Parties zu ihr passt. Hier ist eine kleine Gegenüberstellung: 

Der traditionelle Junggesellinnenabschied ist definitiv Geschmackssache und nicht jedermanns Sache. Die Braut lädt normalerweise ihre engsten Freundinnen zu einem gemeinsamen Party-Abend ein, der voll von exzessivem Trinken, Tanzen und bunten Schärpen ist, auf denen steht, ob man die “zukünftige Braut”, “Brautjungfer” oder “Trauzeugin” ist.

HEN PARTYS AND BRIDAL SHOWERS

Both the hen party and the bridal shower can play a big role in the rollercoaster ride that is getting married. These two celebrations may seem similar, however they’re actually really different.

THE HEN PARTY

Hen parties are known for being a bit wild. They often involve lots of alcohol and general mischief. The bridal shower is a tamer party that tends to be multi-generational and a little more sophisticated. These two celebrations couldn’t be more different in nature, however at the end of the day, they’re the same. Both are there to celebrate the bride-to-be.

Many brides find themselves wondering if both parties are needed. Here are our thoughts on the matter.

The traditional hen party is definitely an acquired taste that not everyone is going to enjoy. Hen partys tend to involve the bride-to-be gathering all of her bridal party and other close friends for a night out. This night out tends to be filled with excessive drinking, dancing and brightly coloured sashes stating whether you’re the ‘bride-to-be’, ‘bridesmaid’ or ‘maid of honour’.

For a hen party we have a great package for hair and makeup before going out, we will even throw in a bottle of champagne to celebrate!

THE BRIDAL SHOWER

The bridal shower is a great option for those ladies who aren’t looking to walk on the wild side and simply want to have a fun-filled afternoon with their nearest and dearest.

Activities at a bridal shower would be things like high tea or spa treatments with lots of food, wine and good conversation. Anything goes for a bridal shower as long as the bride is having a good time.

How about matching manicures for the bridal party? Or perhaps you want to treat the bride to hours of pampering!

For lots of brides, both the bridal shower and the hen’s party sound like amazing activities. For others, only one will suit them. 1. How long have you been working with Glow?
I joined 2 years come September. Since the beginning.

2. What’s your favourite thing about working with Glow
I can add my own schedule and choose when I want to work. If my plans change then I just update my availability.

3. What convinced you to join?
I always wanted to work in the beauty industry and this way I can be flexible with my hours and not always being in one place. It’s nice to travel around to different clients instead of sitting in a salon.

4. What’s your most popular treatment?
I think nails, in particular pedicures, I have this great product from Lovaskin which the clients love, it removes all the dead skin in literally 60 seconds.

5. Is there any advice you would give to anyone thinking of working with Glow? 
Add as much availability as possible, you can always take it out if your plans change, no one can book you if you’re not available online. Especially at the beginning it’s good to be seen and then you get some clients who become regulars. A lot of my clients are referrals from other clients.

Summer is just around the corner and it’s time to brush up on your summer beauty tips! You may be staying in Switzerland but with all the beautiful lakes and mountains it still feels like a holiday.

1. Choose the right sunscreen. Nothing is more important for summer! Choose the right factor for your skin.

2. Stay moisturized. You may have let up on this a little since winter left the premises, but don’t give it up for good. A solid moisturizing routine can do so many beneficial things for your complexion! Your skin is a barrier that protects you from environmental aggressors like pollution, bacteria and moisture loss, and keeping it moisturized helps keep that barrier working properly. Dry skin is unhappy, damage-prone skin, so apply a light moisturizer to protect it from summertime drying agents like sunburns, salt and chlorine.
